It was a race against time. I couldn't let you sit there broken while I was gone. It was morally wrong. Your alternator destroyed after being caked in mud. And so the race began. Replacing your broken alternator, rotted serpentine belt, and giving you a Christmas gift, an Optima Yellowtop.

Through the cold, the dark, and your interesting engine layout, you were fixed. Starting right up, but not without letting me know you were angry with me and the long list of insults my friend had thrown at you. But you ran strong and I knew what I had to do.

Your friends CJ and YJ would get to play in the snow the afternoon I left. I knew you wanted to be there, mostly to laugh at YJ. So I took you out, found some untouched roads and let you do your thing. You still continue to impress me. Watching that Colorado nearly spin out was pretty funny. I know you thought you were about to make your first recovery.

I can't wait to see you again in three weeks.

My 91 cherokee is one of the easiest vehicles i have ever driven in the snow that i can hold a drift with. I went down my street (no one drive down it) sideways for 1/2 a mile.

Loved my 2001 XJ. Sadly stolen right after a suspension rebuild will all the right stuff...including bilstein shocks and an Addco front swaybar.....the bastards. I really wish people that steal cars go to a special place in hell.

Very sorry to hear that.

Car thieves get tortured and mutilated by the cars they stole. Your thief will be torn apart by five XJs pulling at his appendages with 10,000lbs tow straps at the same time.

I am still mad at myself to this day about trading in my 1993 Cherokee back in 2004. It still ran great when I let her go and she only had a little over 100k on the clock but I was young and dumb. You can run them into the ground and they were easy to work on, cherish the time you have with your Cherokee!

What did you trade it for?

I am embarrassed to say it was a 2001 Focus ZX3 Kona edition. I had been out of college a couple years and was commuting from Lawrence to KC for work and the Jeep wasn't practical then. But the Jeep gave me over 8 solid years of joy when I had her.

Correction, the Focus Kona was a 2000 model year. Just looked at the papers while getting all nostalgic. I still have my old VIN's so maybe I can track the Cherokee down someday...
